Playboy model:Amber Campisi::[杂文|Misc]

Liang

早上打开校报,看到了这样的标题:SMU alumna making headlines and embarrassing the school.

Playboy model SMU alumna making headlines and embarrassing the school

Amber Campisi. What does the name mean to you? A prominent display of modern female beauty and power? Or an embarrassing product of the SMU community?

Miss Campisi, a recent graduate of SMU, has had her name and face (not to mention bare body) splashed all over the media.

The spotlight found her after a stint in Playboy magazine and was followed by a slew of articles in other publications. Ed. Board is wondering how this kind of publicity reflects on Miss Campisi’s alma mater.

SMU has been in the national spotlight a lot lately — most of the attention resulting in negative exposure. A certain cookie bake sale, a water-induced hazing incident, OSU setting a new touchdown record against the Ponies…these are all recent examples of the publicity SMU has received.

We do not need another shameful headliner calling attention to a 2003 graduate of SMU who is making her mark in the world by bartending and posing nude in a less-than-respectful magazine.

In addition to just giving the University a bad rap, this could possibly affect future donations and endowments. Not very many people want to write six-digit checks to institutions that produce rowdy frat boys, dismal football records and scantily clad models.

So why are we not hearing any stories of SMU graduates that make us proud?

They are out there, you know, these stellar alumnae.

As you read this, ex-Mustangs are thriving in the nation’s top medical schools, etching out successful careers as lawyers, and running some of the top corporations. And that’s just to mention a few of the ways society is benefiting from our graduates.

It seems like many of our graduates’ major accomplishments are swept under the rug and forgotten, never making it to print. Yet the buzz about Miss Campisi is still thick in the air, casting a dark cloud over SMU’s reputation with her not being the ideal representative of the University.

Perhaps there is something to be learned from our Amber Campisi. After all, she has consistently managed to do something very few alumnae have: get her name in the paper.

Our hats off to you, Amber, your name has graced The Daily Campus once again.

that's sooooo stupid. what right do the editors of smu daily campus have to criticize an alma mater for her career choice? and "she has consistently managed to do something very few alumnae have: get her name in the paper." so are these people proud of their school or ashamed? a little self-conflicting going on there don't you think? on another note, SMU MBA program has dropped in ranking 3 years in a roll now... Not that I had much school spirit to start with, but it's still a sad thing to see.
